AReandal,
Okay, I'm going to half-contradict you here. I
think the reason Mechanical is the only age where the gun
comes with you is that it's the only age where the location of
the linking book on Myst allows the gun to be shown.
Now, in English: the linking books for Selenitic and
Channelwood are both inside, and the gun disappears when
you're inside. So is the Stoneship book, but you can't
even get to that one with the gun. The Mechanical book
is outside, though, so maybe that's why that's the only age
where the gun comes with you.
NOW, that being said,
that doesn't mean it's not significant or a clue that there's
another egg involved. I'm just sayin' it could be merely
a programming thing with no other significance.
One
other thought I had; I tried aiming it at the Mechanical
marker switch, waiting for it to fire, and then just
WAITING... ...I think I had an idea that firing a cannon
toward the gear might somehow summon the Black Ship or
something, heheh... ...nothing happened, of course. :-P

definitely sounds like some sort of gun shooting. Like a laser

I thought I recalled a
discussion on RG about the torsk gun and the Mechanical Age --
ring a bell with anyone? Anyway, what I remember is that
the topic came up in CC (this was reported in the RG
discussion) and a Cyantist basically said that it was a fluke,
that there was no significance to being able to take the torsk
gun into the that age. Maybe it wasn't CC, but that was
the conclusion I remember.

I remember that thread
but didn't think everyone considered the matter closed. Like
the Mac MYST Masterpiece clue, a cyanists stated that clue was
only for those with that version of MYST. Why would Spyder
post that clue among realMYST Egg clues if it was only
for Mac MME? It doesn't make sense. Mac realMYST wasn't
realesed then. And still isn't.
Anyway, I'm just brainstorming. um, which
allows you to share all ideas however farfetched.

AReandal, remember:
that Mac Myst Masterpiece clue was given on April Fools' Day.
Assuming that that's significant at all, it could mean
one of two things:
1) That that specific clue is
bogus, having been given on April Fools' Day. That seems
pretty weak, though, as obvious it as it is. I feel that
it's much more likely...
2) That that clue was genuine
and made to make us slap our foreheads in realizing that all
that time we thought he was hinting at a realMYST egg, he was
actually hinting at a Mac MME egg. In this way, he kinda
set up his April Fools' joke in advance, and it would have a
"Ha ha, gotcha" effect.
Except, of course, for the
fact that no one has found that egg in either game.
I had one last brainstorm about the "Find the turned
logo" clue; y'know how in the pre-game animation it shows the
orb at the top of the mountain? Well, one of the symbols
looks like the orb at the top of the middle of three
mountains. So I tried THAT one in all four, then
clicking the lower-left bolt of the console, and nothing
happened. Y'all might try some stuff with that idea and
see what happens. *shrugs*

Maybe he means that
there is no such product named Mac MYST Masterpiece. That is
because MYST Masterpiece is a dual platform product like
EX|LE. urm, what does that say for Spyder's clue?
75th, you may be on to something with the turned logo
clue. I tried turning the logo in the fireplace but wasn't
sure what to do next (no bolts there). But I still think there
will be more patterns in the fireplace that start with the C
logo.
Put the C logo in and then turn it?? Then what?
never mind.

Um, it means that
more'n likely those clues help lead to somewhere we've not
been or something we've not seen.
I've wondered if the
long statements that Spyder made that yielded those clues
might not be clues themselves. For instance, "If your
ears are ready, listen. Think for two or three beats.
Will the loud effect open our door?" yields "USE IT FOR
ALL FOUR," but could the sentence itself mean something?
"Think for two or three beats" might refer to the
metronome on the rocketship. I had the thought that "the
loud effect" might refer to the YIMSN cannon. So far,
though, that's gotten me nowhere.
The sentences
themselves probably DON'T mean anything, but if we're really
that desperate to find the meaning of the extra date clues,
anything's worth a try...

Hi!!!
Congrats
to all involved in solving *The YIMSN Egg*
Now I have to write something (sorry ) : What if after we put the *C* into the
fireplace we put something like this:
OO[][][][]OO
OO[][][][]OO [][][][][][][][] OOO[][]OOO
OO[]OO[]OO O[]OOOO[]O
A PLAYER!!!
Ok I'm crazy... a bit...
And now an
explanation why Ides/Brake-In didn't gave us an Egg. 1)We
are searching in the wrong place 2)If I/B-I is connected
to "pong" Egg then; Ides of March=15 15 can mean 3
p.m. We we start the game and look at the 3 o'clock
direction we see a boat. Brake-In=Watergate Watergate
can be a hint at the boat puzzle The constelations are the
Myst's Watergate!
Boat, constelations = puzzle
constelations -> planeterium The rest we know.
It seems that only Egg remaining in the game is
Huevo/Vika.
Why? Let's check the clues: We had 6
main clues then the "MacMyst" clues. In the last main clue
Spyder wrote that *one* remaing Egg needs more help. One that
means the YIMSN Egg.
But what about Huevo/Vika?
If this is the last clue that it can mean only one
thing. We have all *triggers* for Huevo/Vika! Triggers
are: Pong, Doughnut, YIMSN, Torsk then Gas, finally
Face/Cyanegg Egg and then the RIVEN image.

...You feelin' okay there, Dan'ni?
Methinks thou doth theorize conspiracies too much.
;-)
Besides which, aren't Huevo and Vika just
AVI's from which pics can be extracted? I mean, I know
that it'd be cool if we could find those pics in the *game,*
but seeing's how we already have them from people who've
hacked them, the only thing left would be to decipher more
clues on crystal shapes/sequences/colors in the Rime viewer,
and frankly, my take on that is "big deal." Spyder might
not even go to the trouble to hint at them if we've already
found them.
In any case, if there's anything left,
it's bigger than decoding pics for the Rime viewer, or Spyder
wouldn't've left it for last. I'm still hopin' that
there's a way to launch the rocketship, personally.

Great,
I'll go to my grave known as that guy who was obsessed with
the savegame files. Got a question about realMyst
savegame files? Just ask Zardoz!!
I haven't
really found anything that refers to the torsk gun.
HOWEVER, I have found something else marginally
interesting. I mentioned in a different thread (on the
dll files) that there is another mysterious reference I
thought related to the Cyan/Face egg: TheBigC. It turns
out that this in fact refers to a single action: Putting
the Cyan logo ("C" ) into the fireplace. I found this
out by testing -- you guessed it! -- some savegame files.
Every savegame file has a section near the beginning
that contains references to the "state" of the game -- what's
turned on or off, whether the player has won or not, whether
doors are open or closed, and so forth. I discovered
that this section also includes a reference to the YIMSN gun
if that egg is currently triggered. (It does not,
as far as I can tell, contain references to other eggs but I
may check later.) (EDIT: Actually, I forgot to mention
that this section does have a reference to being gassed --
"Buzzed" is the actual reference -- but that it disappears
after some period of time.)
Anyway, I started with a
game in which I hadn't put anything egg-related into the
fireplace (I had won the game, but no eggs). In that
savegame, there is no reference to TheBigC or YIMSN. I
then put in the C and the plus, and then looked in the
resulting savegame file. I found references to both
TheBigC and YourInMySightsNow in this "state of the game"
section. I then turned YIMSN off (you can do that by
entering any other pattern into the fireplace), and the YIMSN
reference disappeared but TheBigC reference did not. So
I went back to the first savegame, entered only the
logo ("C" ), and then saved the game at that point. Sure
enough, TheBigC turns up in the savegame.
OK,
ZARDOZ, WHAT THE HECK DOES ALL THAT MEAN?!?!?!?
What it means, I think, is that the Cyan logo in the
fireplace has some importance on its own, or it may play a
role in lots of different things, or it may play a role just
in the two eggs, or whatever.
This brings me back to
my original theory, which Aloys has amply supported: If
we propose enough silly theories in very loud posts WITH LOTS
OF CAPITAL LETTERS, Spyder may take pity on us and give us
more clues.

Zardoz, I think I know
the reason for TheBigC still being there when you put it in
the fireplace. (I kind of understand what you were talking
about.)
Remember that putting in the "C" in the
fireplace is also the first part of the donut egg. When you
only put in the "C" and nothing else and look at the game
file, it's there because it's the first part of two eggs. The
YourInMySights now egg and the donut one (not sure what the
exact name of that is).
Hope that makes sense.
And did anyone ever figure anything else out about
those rat turd things in the coding?
