Marack finally cracked this egg, with Dan'ni a few minutes behind.  The key was the preface to the last clue:  "Row-by-row...Column-by-column. Hurmpf! Perhaps the path is more circular."  Circular indeed!  The string of 0s and 1s are used to form patterns in the fireplace, with a 1 being an indent.  Enter the string in a circular route, beginning in the upper left corner and proceeding clockwise.  The two strings produce the following patterns:

00111100
01111110
11000000
11000000
01111110
00111100

00111100
01111110
11000011
11000011
01111110
00111100

Enter the first into the fireplace and push the red button.  Now push the red button again to regain the blank wall.  Enter the second pattern and once again push the red button.

The first set of clues were in fact all we needed.  Look again at the two patterns:

..1111..
.111111.
11......
11......
.111111.
..1111..

..1111..
.111111.
11....11
11....11
.111111.
..1111..

My goodness!  Those two patterns, which are not found in a book, look amazingly like the Cyan logo (C) and the letter Oh (O)!!

For posterity, I have retained our old patterns/logo/oh theories here.

Enjoy this one, and next time, don't forget the doughnuts!!
