Discovery #1:  The meaning of "Plus = 00111 etc."

In the Doughnut egg, described at http://home.comcast.net/~zardoz99/doughnut_egg.htm , you must input Spyder's previous strings in the library fireplace in a spiral, starting at the upper-lefthand corner and winding clockwise.

WELL, if you do the same with this new string EXCEPT winding counter-clockwise, you end up with a plus shape or, more accurately, a crosshair!  This is further evidence that YourInMySightsNow is related to the Torsk egg, but as yet, I've not been able to yield any results.  I tried putting in the Cyan logo and then the crosshair, then activating the Torsk egg, but nothing has happened yet.  I'm about to try putting the Cyan string in counter-clockwise, and if nothing happens, I'll go back to the typical forward logo and crosshair, and explore extensively to see what I can find!!

I just thought of something, 'bye' is not spyder's usual exit message. I think that bye = bi = 2 or X2! I've tried playing with Torsk and the clues but that's not working...

Easter Eggs, here I come!

When Spyder last appeared on May 5, he said:
Figure these out and then I can give you YourInMySightsNow

He was referring to the previous two "binary" clues that produced the donut egg.  Perhaps he meant that the donut egg must precede this one.  I've tried that and nothing (obvious) happens.  Or he just might have meant that he wouldn't give us any more clues until we figured out the donut egg.

The Egg Hunt is On!  And congrats to 75th for figuring out the +.

Hmm, Mysterious1, Spyder has used "Bye" as his sign-off before.  Go to http://home.comcast.net/~zardoz99/spyder_clues_cyan_chat.htm and look at the entry for 16 March.  I don't think that the sign-off is probably significant, although that was an excellent, if not entirely correct, observation.

Been to a few ages with the Torsk gun and the logo/crosshair sequence done.  Found nothing, except that I've gotten permanently stuck in Atrus' Rime study.  Y'know how the Torsk gun disappears when you go inside a room?  Well, the same thing has happened in the Rime study, except to my CURSOR.  Now I can't push any buttons on the elevator! :-P

of course it means "bi"  That number he posted was a binary number!  Has anyone converted it to decimal yet and derived a meaning?

Easter Eggs, here I come!

Egghunters:

In the realMyst savegame files, I found several references to YourInMySightsNow and the m3dplayer that may be part of this egg.  These references may or may not be relevant to the hunt for this egg but I thought I would post them anyway (from my eggsite):

Yourinmysightsnow
Yourinmysightsnowaction
myst..inmysites
myst..inmysitesaction
This is probably a reference to the torsk egg but if Spyder's last clue is to be believed, there may be more to come (see the next set of references).

m3dplayer
m3dplayer..body
m3dplayer..boomout
m3dplayer..boomup
m3dplayer..foot
m3dplayer..head
m3dplayer.max..playermat..body
Myst..m3dplayergearwarp
Myst..m3dplayerwarptower
Myst..m3dplayerwarptower_posdummy
sn_island_pit..m3dplayerelewarp
sn_island_pit..m3dplayerelewarpnook
These references are enough to make you salivate.  The most intriguing possibility is that there is a full YourInMySightsNow egg that includes some or all of a 3d player-mode.  And note the last five references.  I think that "warp" indicates a locked-in track that you travel when you click certain spots.  For example, the sn_island_pit refers to the top of the Rime elevator, where you "warp" to the aurora controls after you click on them.  I've fooled around with those controls while carrying the torsk gun (even though it is not visible), but haven't gotten anything.

Phgreer, converting it to decimal doesn't give it meaning; it represents a pattern in the Myst library fireplace.  Go to http://home.comcast.net/~zardoz99/doughnut_egg.htm to learn more! :-)

SFT

EDIT:  For the record, the decimal equivalent of that binary string (omitting the leading zeroes) is 53614284793548.  If that's significant, then Spyder is being even more evil than usual! :-)

Wohba!! The gun just went off!!  It wiggled around and then made a firing sound.  No flame or smoke, but cool!  I'm rotating the tower to point it at various things -- let's see if we can blow up the tree!

Easter Eggs, here I come!

Gandalf - it doesn't appear inside the tower, or at least not so far.  Here's all that I've done (other egg hunters, add your own experiments):

I first went through some previous eggs (torsk, then donut), then the new clues, went outside, went up to the gear linking book, and just happened to look up at the tower - there it was.  I've since tried it with only the new clues (no other eggs) and it works, so you don't need the other eggs to get the tower gun (but maybe you do for more).

I then experimented with tower rotation, rotating the tower to one of the set spots and then going u p the elevator and the ladders.  Everything appears normal from inside, but from outside the tower gun definitely rotates.  I've tried listening for new sounds when I rotate the tower from the library, but nothing so far.

Now for the weird part.  I was experimenting with tower rotation and had the torsk gun activated (as well as having triggered the donut egg).  I think I rotated first to the gear, checked things out, then rotated to the spaceship.  I may or may not have gone up the tower before going outside, but in any case as I went along the path to the spaceship, I looked up and the tower gun was wiggling.  After a few seconds of that, it made a sound as if it was firing (but no smoke, etc.).  I have not been able to repeat that sequence for any other position or even for the spaceship, so maybe I dreamed it.

P.S. Chucker, you might consider moving this to the realMyst forum.

Easter Eggs, here I come!

Thanks Chucker.

Someone (MYSTerious 1 in CC) has found a way to make the gun go off, although I haven't been able to duplicate it.  He/she/it says that targeting a landmark then pressing the marker switch sets the gun off.  I've tried this without success but it sounds logical.

I done seen it wiggle, too!  But ya know what, with me, I first rotated it toward Mechanical, and then towards Stoneship.  I went up as close as I could up the mountain and examined it.  Then the turret suddenly moved backwards.  Then it shot forward with a "fwooooomph" sound.  Unfortunately, nothing came out.  I had the torsk egg and the turret egg and that was it.
For me, the gun stays on as long as I'm outside looking outside - from inside the library or even the tower.  Does this mean anything?  Maybe not, we'll see.

--Aitrus

-----

Aaah, I went back and explored, and found the same thing.  I tried flipping the marker switches to activate the shot, but I didn't.  However, once again, on the night of the first day (sounds like something from Majora's Mask, eh?), I had, coincidently, the tower facing the Stoneship entrance, playing around with marker switches, and just as night was falling, fwooooooomph: it shot . . . nothingness.  And then it wouldn't shoot again.  Not the next night.  Perhaps it will shoot regardless the first night, and we have to have it in a special position for the rest of the egg to be opened?  Anyone been able to get the turret to fire at any time other than Night of the First Day?  Hmm....

*even more excited*

I've run all over the place, up the tower, to all the marker switches, played with the Tower Rotation, messed with the vault, and stared at the thing for ten minutes, and it won't go off at all.  Now, I hadn't yet read the part about trying at night; maybe that's part of it.

I was just wondering, at what stage in the game were you guys when the gun went off?  The file I'm playing has collected all the red pages, two or three of the blue (whichever stage Achenar says "I can see you" at), and hasn't yet talked to Atrus.  Trying to come up with some kind of common denominator here.....

SFT

<EDIT>  By the way, sorry about my over-excited outburst earlier.  :-)  I was just thinkin', though...  ...this egg and the Torsk egg both revealed in the game parts of the April Fools' Day pic Cyan originally published of Myst Mayhem.  Now, last night in CC, when I suggested to Og that by the time we were done that that entire picture would be real, he said something along the lines of "75> Heh heh.. ...pretty close."

So so far we have the exact same gun (only no crosshairs... ...except in the fireplace) and the exact same turret.   The other big thing in the picture is the rocketship, and it's flyin' above the whole scene.  There's also something freaky where the model ship used to be...

...Don't really know what my point is, except to say that maybe eventually this entire pic might manifest itself through easter eggs... ...and maybe some of the loose ends that haven't yet been tied up might somehow be the keys to those eggs.

Just another random newbie thought...!

Easter Eggs, here I come!

I think Aitrus has nailed it!  Try starting with a new game, turn the Stoneship marker switch on (or more), and then rotate the tower to the Stoneship.  Now trigger the egg and wait outside where you can see the gun.  Just as the sun sets, wiggle, wiggle, boom!

EDIT:  Well, so much for that theory!  Just about anything, anytime I do now, the gun goes off.  It seems to happen about 30-45 seconds after leaving the library.  I tried staying inside once, nothing happened, then I left and the gun went off shortly thereafter.  Nor do you have to look at the gun or be near it to trigger the blast.  I left the library and then just stood in front of the ship model, never turning around, and BOOM.  I've also used an "old" savegame (post-Rime, post-gassing, post-everything, I think) and BOOM.

As 75th said above, I think there's more to come.  Maybe not from this egg, but this clearly is not the m3dplayer that's somewhere in realMsyt.

Okay, I did that, and it worked, except I didn't have to wait anywhere close to sundown.

I started a new game, turned on the Stoneship, Mechanical, Planetarium, and Selenitic switches, went to the fireplace, did the egg, and went straight to the Stoneship marker.  I turned to face the cannon, and practically the moment it was on the screen it went off.  I sat there for a few moments, and it was still bright as day... ...so I dunno.  :-P

<EDIT> Almost forgot, I did the tower rotation as soon as I entered the library, before the egg.
